Description

Content

Theory and implementation of field and laboratory methods of limnology and fish biology, maintenance and handling of aquatic organisms in laboratory, experimental research, statistical data analysis, research ethics, precision and accuracy of measurements, safety protocols in field and laboratory work.

Completion methods

Attendance, practical, report and seminar.

Assessment details

Practical, report and seminar.

Learning outcomes

Student will gain detailed knowledge of methods used in field and laboratory research of limnology and fish biology and knows how to implement these in practice. Student knows how to implement measurement and sampling equipment (sampling of benthic invertebrates, water samples, electrofishing, gill net sampling), knows factors affecting measurement precision, knows how to implement field and laboratory safety protocols, as well as estimate resource needs of the methods and report the outcomes of basic research according to principles of scientific procedure using standard computer software. Student will also be trained in group working skills according to planned schedules. Student will also be able to relate the practical skills implanted during the course to the theoretical framework of natural phenomena in aquatic ecosystems.

Description of prerequisites
