Content

The course presents selected modern theories, concepts and approaches in social sciences, especially in regard to their importance in research of cultural policy. The course begins with reflections on the role of theory in social research and proceeds to presenting the central concepts and structure of the selected theories. Theorists and approaches related to poststructuralism, critical theory, Marxist approaches, science and technology studies and gender studies will be discussed.

Learning outcomes

Aim of the course is to prepare students to approach cultural policy from the social scientific perspective. After the course, students understand different standpoints in regard to the role of theory in social research and are able to explain the most important concepts and theoretical frameworks. Students are familiar with the latest research of the field and are able to apply theoretical knowledge to empirical phenomena and data analysis, as well as to create new research perspectives on this basis.
