Content

An introduction to the ball games played in Finland. Emphasis is on the games that are taught in Finnish schools. Also some typical "Finnish ball games" are introduced. Team games (Finnish baseball, indoor bandy), games on ice (ringette, rink bandy, ice hockey). Basic skills, tactics and rules. Minor teaching tasks.

Completion methods

Practical lessons (30 h), including videos and reading materials.

Assessment details

Presence in all lessons is required for completing the course. The student will be assessed on the basis of active participation, group behaviour and positive attitude towards the subject to be taught, the teacher and other course participants during the lessons.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, student is able to:
1. know basics of typical Finnish ball games (Finnish baseball, indoor bandy and games on ice)
2. know the idea of the Finnish school curriculum, especially the aims and the role of physical education in it
3. plan ball game lessons according the Finnish core curriculum of physical education
