Description

Content

Lignocellulose-based production of fuel, chemicals, materials and energy by different methods are presented. When moving towards circular economy, lignocellulose-based raw materials are in key position in biorefineries where chemical, biochemical and thermochemical methods are applied in replacing fossil-based production with bio-based production.

Exam + other written assignment

Taught with 6 ECTS in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019, and with 3 ECTS in 2019-2020.

Assessment details

The course is accepted if 50 % of maximum points in course exam is achieved.
1 = 50-59 %
2 = 60-69 %
3 = 70-79 %
4 = 80-89 %
5 = 90-100 %

Learning outcomes

After the course student has a wide understanding of biomass-based production of chemicals, materials and biofuels. Student knows the most important raw materials and products. Student knows different processes and technologies as well as understands the importance of integrated production in biorefineries for optimal utilization of the feedstock. Student learns terminology related to biomass refining and to participate in expert discussions about the topic.
