Description

Content

Practical AAS analytics. Method development for FAAS technique, optimization of gas flows, burner height, sample introduction and influence of sample matrix on absorbance signals. Thermal pretreatment/atomization curves in GFAAS technique and influence of matrix modifiers and sample matrix on absorbance signals.

Completion methods

Lectures, demonstrations in the laboratory and seminar.

Assessment details

Participation in lectures, group work during laboratory demonstrations and a presentation at the final seminar.

Learning outcomes

After the course, students will be able to make the measurement method using FAAS and GFAAS instruments. The student is also able to select the appropriate measurement technique for variety of concentration levels as well as to adjust parameters of the instrument such that the result measured is reliable. The student can also calculate limit of detection and the limit of quantification. In addition, the student knows how sample matrix can affect results obtained.

Additional information

This course replaces the KEMS322 AAS-workshop course.
