Content

The course consists of course book chapters 11-15, 16.1-16.2, 27 in edition 8 and chapters 12, 14-16, 17.1-17.2, 28 in edition 9. Course contents in most accurately: EDTA titrations, electrochemistry, electrodes and potentiometry, redox titrations, electrolysis, sampling, sample treatment

Lectures 22 h and demonstrations 8 h (all in Finnish)

Assessment details

The course is accepted if 50 % of maximum points in course exam is achieved

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student can
- calculate EDTA and redox titration curves
- explain and recall the behavior of galvanic element and electrolysis cell
- use Nernst equation for electrochemical cells to calculate eq. half-reaction potentials or stability constants of the reactions
- indicate the indicator and reference electrodes and give description of their functionality
- evaluate the importance of sampling and sample treatment on the obtained analytical results
- apply the analytical methods treated in the course in laboratory exercises and future work
- evaluate the suitability of selected analytical method in analysis of different sample matrices
