Description

Content

Research training is a supervised experimental or theoretical project work that can take place outside University. Research training can be linked to Master’s thesis work and it can feature for example designing an experimental setup, programming or deriving demanding theoretical results for the thesis. It can also be a literature survey from the given topic. Research training topics can be requested from the staff of the Physics Department. Before commencing research training students need to register for this course in Korppi.

Assessment details

To pass the course, students need to have submitted a research report for assessment. In addition to the report, students’ activities during the project, such as mastery of relevant physics, mastery of research methods and equipment, independence, scheduling and the end-result of the project, are being assessed.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to tell about research on the given topic and related physics. Students will be able to define and outline a research problem based on given assignment and information retrieved from the given topic as well as to apply their learning and knowledge of physics to solve physics problems in practice. They will be able to write a research report that gives an objective and reliable answer to the following questions: What was studied? Why it was studied? How it was studied? What are the results? What are your conclusions based on these results?
