Introduction to various nuclear models and their theoretical concepts; strengths and weaknesses of various models; use of nuclear models in the interpretation of experimental data; experimental data for nuclear models.

Completion methods

Participation in the lectures and learning diary. A presentation of selected course related topic.

Assessment details

Active participation in the lectures is expected.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to identify basic nuclear properties and explain main features of their theoretical descriptions. Students will be able to outline what are the underlying theoretical concepts behind various theoretical models, where these models can be applied to, what are their limitations, and how well they can explain measured data. Students will learn about the different experimental observables for the testing of theoretical models.

Students enrolling for this course are expected to have studied Nuclear Physics (FYSS3300).
