Content

Chemical properties and the occurrence of metals in the environment, acidic sulfate soils, the exposure of organisms to metals, effects of metals on cell metabolism, physiology, and adaptation. Lectures addressing hot topics related to the metals in the environment. A demonstration for the determination of metals from environmental samples collected by the students. A seminar based on essays made by the students.

Completion methods

The course consists of lectures, environmental sampling, a demonstration of metal analytics, essay (ca. 10 pages) prepared by each student and a seminar based on the essays. The essays are part of study material.

Assessment details

Exam based on lectures and essays, essays, activity during the demonstrations and seminar.

Learning outcomes

After the course the student knows the environmental occurrence of metals and their ecotoxicological effects.

BENA4029 Principles of ecotoxicology.
