Content

This is a self-study course that provides a deeper insight into the relations between language and society. Some of the topics that are covered in the books: language and power, language and education, social and regional dialectology, language policy, language and globalization, language and interaction. In addition to the theories, the sources contain lots of interesting examples that illustrate the issues discussed.

After studying the books, the students will
• have a better understanding of the application of sociolinguistic concepts
• be able to describe major developments and research methodology in the field of sociolinguistics
• get an overview of how sociolinguistic theories are connected to real life practices.
