Content
The course addresses vocabulary and its use from a phraseological viewpoint, ie it examines the relations the words have in lexical, grammatical and semantic features in their context. We will concentrate especially on the fact that language consists of elements ie more or less fixed structures that can be utilized in language teaching and learing, or through which the language structure can be investigated.

Learning outcomes
-approach vocabulary studies from the point of view of teaching and learning a second/foreign language, as well as from a research angle
-understands how the vocabulary is built and how it is connected to grammar and context from the viewpoint of language learning/teaching. In addition, understands theories and concepts underpinning the formulaic structure of language.
-compare how vocabulary is structured in different languages (using English and Finnish as an example) from the viewpoint of language learning/teaching and research
-carry out a basic analysis of learner texts from the point of view of vocabulary and understand how text data can be used to analyse lexical relations
-use and apply the knowledge of elements in a given language in language description and teaching
-understands how the vocabulary is built and how it is connected to grammar and context from the viewpoint of language learning/teaching. In addition, understands theories and concepts underpinning the formulaic structure of language.

The course is a joint course with the Finnish language, both language will be used.
