Content
On this course, students will familiarize themselves with ‘classic’ British novels, while overviewing four eras in British cultural and literary history.
Completion methods
Lectures, reading (at home), in-class group discussion (students will work in groups of 4 or 5, i.e. their ‘reading circles’), and a final written exam.
Assessment details
Based on active class participation (83% attendance) and a written exam at the end of the course.

After completing the course students will be able to:
- understand major trends and developments within British cultural and literary history
- relate the themes and features of ‘classic’ British novels to their sociocultural and historical contexts
- interpret and analyze the novels, applying a variety of approaches to literary criticism

Description of prerequisites
EKIP403 Introduction to Literary Studies.
