Description
Content
Sources of renewable and non-removable energy and the conversion of energy. Material flows in ecosystems and in societies. Basics of geochemical cycles (S, P,C,N and water) and the anthropogenic impact on them. From raw material to products and waste in processes. Material flow management. Circular economy.
Completion methods
Lectures, calculus and exam.
Learning outcomes
During the course, the basic principles of the fate and behavior of energy and matter in the environment and societies are discussed (matter cycles, energy flows). After the course student knows the fate of energy and matter from the molecular level to cell and organism level and up to the ecosystems and societies. He/she knowns that the matter can exist in the gas, liquid and solid phases and the transformation involve transfer of energy. The student knows that the very same laws of energy and meter apply also at macro level in ecosystems and societies.
