Content
History of organization studies. Fields of organization studies: 1) managing systems and technology, 2) managing people, 3) diversity in organizations, 4) feelings and aesthetics, 5) culture, identity and cross-cultural management 6) critical management research, 7) organizational change. Methodological aspects of organization theory. Legitimization of academic knowledge. How to apply organization theory in research and practice.
Completion methods
Contact teaching course, autumn semester, 2nd period. The study methods of the contact teaching course are specified in the study program annually.
Assessment details
Accepted completion of the designated assignments. The assessment criteria of the course is specified in the study program annually.
Active participation at the lectures and group-work sessions. In written essays the level of analysis, ability to synthetize knowledge, showing ability to apply knowledge in organizations and management, reflective thinking and well-structured writing are emphasized.
Learning outcomes
-recognize theoretical background in reading studies at the organization study field
-compare different theory approaches and use them in study designs
-apply organization theory on current work-life and management questions
- develop critical understanding in studying management and organizations
