Content

The course covers the networking security related areas. The emphasis is on threats against network services and protecting against them. In relation to these the course deals for web traffic analysis, remote access security (VPN), encryption issues (PKI, GPG). Here are the topics, which will be covered during th course. Some topics might change during the time.

WPA encryption cracking by dictionary attacks
ARP poisoning and ICMP redirection
DNS and DHCP spoofing
Annoying HTTP server and bank attack
SSH downgrading
Reverse TCP attack
Configuring VPN connection with the help of OpenVPN
Public-key cryptography with GNU Privacy Guard
Network traffic anomaly analysis

Completion methods

Mandatory week exercises. At least 50% of the exercises should be get accepted.
The course can be completed as a distance learning by doing those exercises.

Assessment details

At least 50% of the exercises should be get accepted in order to get grade 1.

Learning outcomes

Student understands the basic knowledge of the computer networks threats and how to protect against them. Student will have skills in defining security goals, security solutions, planning and deployment methods.

Description of prerequisites

Students should have basic skills of how computers are connected to internet (wireless and wired access) and knowledge about internet protocols (ARP, DHCP, DNS, IP, TCP/UDP, routing). Basic courses like Computer Networks and Communication Protocols have good basement for completing this network security course.
