Description

Content

In this course several advanced nano-sized systems are provided and their properties are studied with various experimental methods. Properties of some systems will be also studied computationally. Each week has it´s own theme. It contains a short introduction lecture in the beginning of the week after which laboratory work is followed for 1-4 days. The most of the nano-sized systems are provided either by means of supramolecular chemical or biochemical methods. Then, the properties of the systems are studied by means of various spectroscopic and electronic experiments. The last day (or one of the day) of the week is normally for writing the report.

Completion methods

Lectures, laboratory work, reports and seminar.

Assessment details

Activity in the laboratory work, data processing knowledge, reporting knowledge.

The accomplishment of the course requires a full participation to the laboratory works together with reports of each of the work. The reports will be graded according to their clarity and the manifestation of the knowledge of the student.

Learning outcomes

After passing this course the student can work in physics, chemistry and biology laboratory and he/she can provide some molecules used in the nanosciences by using techniques from biochemistry/molecular biology and organic chemistry. After the course the student can also characterize molecules by means of physics and physical chemistry. After the course the student can interpret the obtained results and is able to report the results in a clear manner.

Additional information

The course is only for nanoscience students. The course is recommended preferentially for third year bachelor student, or first year masters student.

Description of prerequisites

Some laboratory experience is required for the course.

Study materials

Material for each laboratory will be delivered.
