Content

The lecture course gives an introduction to key functions of the financial markets, to financial institutions and to the role of money in economy. The special focus of the lecture course is business and behavior of the financial institutions, financial market equilibrium, demand for money, and determination of interest rates. The lecture course gives also an introduction to the main functions of central banks, and to the tools and targets of monetary policy.

Accepted completion of the designated assignments. The assessment criteria of the course is specified in the study program annually.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course student is expected to be able to:
• explain the key functions of the financial markets
• to understand the definitions of money and monetary aggregates, and to be able to analyze behavior of interest rates
• to be able to explain and analyze what factors determine demand for money and supply of money
