Description

Content

The course is comprised of two sections, in which the first part is performed on reserved group times (2×4 hours per week for 7 weeks) and the second stage involves a research project conducted in pairs. The first part (“group stage”) consists of qualitative analysis as well as simple inorganic synthesis to introduce a number of fundamental analytical and characterization methods. Aim of the research projects is to demonstrate the process involved with modern synthetic research including: (1) literature survey and writing a research plan, (2) conducting the research in the lab and (3) reporting the results (written report and group seminar presentation).

Completion methods

Completion of laboratory exercises, planning and conducting a research project including reporting by seminar presentation and a written report.

Assessment details

Required: completion of laboratory exercises, planning and conducting a research project including reporting by seminar presentation and a written report.

Learning outcomes

To learn basic skills and to understand theoretical background involved with inorganic synthesis and with basic analytical and characterization methods.

Additional information

Registration required for the whole course as well as to one of the (English speaking) groups. The course is given every academic year in the III and partially in the IV period.
