Content

Presenting his/her research plan and research work, giving and receiving peer feedback. Ethical discussions regarding his/her own field of science and good scientific practice. Degree structure and contents of postgraduate studies, research process, principles of supervision, research funding and employment opportunities requiring expertise.

Completion methods

Contact teaching, independent work/written assignment. Completion modes shall be agreed upon in more detail with both the seminar leader and supervisor-in-charge, and these shall be entered in the doctoral student’s postgraduate study plan. In case of non-attendances, the seminar leader may appoint compensatory personal assignments.

Assessment details

Pass requires
-participating in the doctoral seminar or equivalent so that the total work amounts to the 10 ECTS credits required
-active participating in discussion
-presenting the research plan and the progress of the research work in the seminar

Learning outcomes

The doctoral student
-understands the different phases and practices involved in dissertation work, such as the degree system and supervisory process
-is familiar with research funding
-is able to participate in scientific discussion both orally and in writing
-is able to justify his/her own solutions in the licentiate thesis/dissertation work
-is familiar with the topical discussion in his/her own field of science
-has ethical responsibility and acts according to good scientific practice
-is familiar with various employment opportunities requiring expertise.

Teacher in charge of the module, course or equivalent will announce possible literature and/or other materials.
