Content
Writing a BA thesis supported by the seminar work. In the seminar and the thesis, students will familiarise themselves with ethical research principles, as well as develop their critical and analytical thinking, information management skills, ability to take responsibility and make decisions, self-management and problem solving skills, and ability to give, receive and ask for constructive feedback.

Active participation in the seminar (min. 80% attendance) and BA thesis.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course students will be able to conduct a small-scale study and participate in scientific discussion. They will also be able to
- plan and carry out the different phases of the research and writing process according to deadlines
- choose and narrow down a research topic on the basis of earlier literature and write a research proposal
- search for information in the key sources related to the research topic and critically evaluate source materials
- recognise the most important ethical research questions in their own and other students’ theses
- apply chosen research methods to answer research questions
- write a research report following scientific conventions
- report on the progress of their research, explain the choices they have made, and assess the validity, reliability and significance of their research results
- critically evaluate and support other students’ work and participate in scientific discussions
- plan and carry out the different phases of the research and writing process according to deadlines

Basic Studies and some Intermediate Studies courses:
• EKIA315 Current Issues in Teaching English OR EKIA470 Discourse at Work
• KLSA124/KOPA1000 Johdatusta kielen oppimiseen ja opettamisen tutkimukseen OR KLSA324/MONA1000 Johdatus diskurssintutkimukseen
• at least one optional course / exam in area of specialization
KLSA1000 Tutkimuksen teon perusteet must be completed during the same academic year as the BA Thesis seminar.
• EKIA315 Current Issues in Teaching English OR EKIA470 Discourse at Work
