Content

Foundations of policy making in international development, recent changes in development
policy, key topics in policy debates such as human rights-based development, state-led vs market-oriented development, global development goals, poverty reduction strategies, etc. The course also includes a field trip, which familiarises students to practical work in development policy.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be familiar with the general trends, changes and continuities in global and national development policies and debates. Further, they have a grasp of social, economic, political and cultural issues related to a variety of sector-specific areas of development interventions. They will also have a basic understanding of policy analysis and main theories and principles underpinning key international development policy issues.
