Description
Content
The course deals with protein structure, folding and dynamics. Basic principles of following techniques are studied: determination of biological macromolecule structure by x-ray crystallography, NMR spectrocopy and electron microscopy techniques. A special focus is how to use structural data obtained by various techniques in interpreting and modeling of the structures.
Completion methods
Practices, lectures, group discussions, research project, where literature and protein structure data is employed. Attendance in compulsory in the group discussions.
Assessment details
individual exercises, group exercises, written report
Learning outcomes
After the completion of the course, student understands:
- how protein structure affects into cellular functionality
- basics of methods for protein structure determination
- how protein structures can be employed in research at cell- and molecular biology, biochemistry etc.
