The main concepts covered in the course are: the role of water in cellular function, classification of biological macromolecules, thermodynamics of life, structure of cells, cellular membranes, intracellular signal transduction, cell respiration, and cell division.

Learning outcomes

This course discusses the evolution of cells, their structure, function and regulation. After the course the student can explain how cells have evolved and explain the main functions of nucleic acids, proteins, lipids and carbohyrdates in cells and tissues. The student can also describe the main cellular structures and their functions. The student understand the flow of hereditary information and basic principles of metabolism.
