Description
Content
Students will learn basic techniques in molecular microbiology through working in the laboratory. Students will identify bacterial species from samples that they have collected using molecular tools. Students will learn principle techniques of recombinant-DNA -technology including: DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, cloning and sequencing. Students will also learn to compare their obtained data to sequence databanks. Students participate in lectures and prepare a seminar to describe the different methods used in the laboratory to their classmates.
Completion methods
Lectures, practicals and lab report.
Assessment details
seminar, lab preport, exam
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student:
- knows the basis of DNA methods in practice
- understands principles of recombinant-DNA -technology
- knows basics of Sanger-sequencing, and some bioinformatic tools
